Artist Bio
Makayla McNeil is a senior at FIU on the BFA Graphic Design track with a minor in Art
History. They have worked on the Miami-based, student-run magazine Strike as part of
the graphic design team and on campus as a graphic design intern in the Division of
Academic & Student Affairs. Upon graduating in the fall, they plan to focus their
professional career on personal expression, with the goal of connecting with people who
share similar experiences—particularly those within the Black and Haitian communities.
Artis Statement
This stencil highlights the need to keep trash out of storm drains through a handcrafted,
typographical design. Water imagery serves as a visual reminder that everything dropped
down the drain flows into the ocean. The design encourages viewers to think twice before
littering and take responsibility for protecting marine ecosystems.
