I have created storm drain stencil design in collaboration with the City of Miami, Ocean Conservancy and Shore network, aiming to raise public awareness about the impact of urban waste on our waterways. My design centers on the message “This drain goes to the ocean” as a direct reminder that storm water runoff doesn't just disappear, but flows untreated into the ocean, affecting marine life and water quality.
To reinforce this idea visually, I used flowing organic forms to mimic a puddle of water moving toward the drain, symbolizing movement and connection. The typography is entirely hand-drawn. I chose a playful, bubble-like style to reflect both water and accessibility, making the message engaging and easy to read. The phrase “no waste” is shaped like a fish, representing the life we’re protecting and the consequences pollution has on ocean ecosystems.
