Artist Bio
My name is Alexandra Pedroso, and I am a senior graphic design student at Florida International University. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I have always been inspired by the city’s unique contrasts—the lively energy of the city and the calm serenity of its beaches. Miami is a place where you can truly have it all. Much like my hometown, I am eclectic and vibrant, and that essence is reflected in my art.
My passion for creativity began at the age of seven, when I took my first art class and discovered a love for drawing and painting. Since then, my artistic drive has been fueled by a constant exploration of different creative paths. I am deeply inspired by balance—particularly the concept of yin and yang—and by the complexities of human identity. As people, we cannot be defined by a single characteristic; rather, we are composed of many different elements that shape who we are.
My work is strongly influenced by nature, humanity, and social justice. I see art as a powerful tool to connect people and to challenge injustice. Through my creative practice, I have been able to navigate my own inner struggles and embrace the idea that I do not need to be defined in just one way. I hope to remind others that everyone faces their own struggles, and to encourage them to explore their identities more deeply—without limiting themselves.
Artist Statement
My stencil uses the phrase “Thirsty? Then keep our waters clean” alongside
glasses filled with litter to connect pollution to clean water. Designed to grab attention
in Miami’s heat, it encourages people to think twice before littering reminding
them that protecting the environment directly affects their health.
